Police Blotter
Bainbridge Police reported the following incidents:
APRIL 21
2:28 p.m. A maintenance worker reported a sliding glass door had been broken at a vacant residence on Tolo Road. The home’s interior appeared to be unmolested and its owners were contacted.
4:23 p.m. Police responded to a home on Manitou Beach where a resident said his wife had violated court orders by consuming alcohol riding off on bicycle in the direction of Winslow. The woman was located in front of Safeway, with a laceration on her left eye. She initially told an officer that she had been pushed down a flight of stairs, but later admitted the cut was the result of a bicycle wreck. The woman refused hospitalization and was taken home. Police were contacted twice more by the husband following the incident, first to report that his wife had walked to a store for more alcohol, and later to say that she had returned home after falling twice and was delusional. Police and aid again responded to the home and found the woman on the bathroom floor apparently highly intoxicated. When a female officer contacted the woman she responded with “yes mommy.” The woman said she was in a cloud and wanted the officer to join her because it was so beautiful. The woman was transported to Harborview Medical Center and a report was forwarded to Bainbridge Municipal Court for review.
APRIL 22
12:37 a.m. Fire and police responded to a report of a structure fire in an apartment on Madison Avenue. At the scene it was determined that there was no fire, but rather a domestic violence incident. One woman was found bleeding from a cut on he rneck from a fingernail. A second woman was contacted outside the apartment. She said the two had gotten into an argument on their way back from a bar that evening, which led to a scuffle. The second woman was put under arrest for assault but refused to cooperate and had to be carried to a patrol car. While being searched at the car the woman told an officer “You had better hope I don’t find out where you live..” When asked if she was threatening the officer the woman responded: “You’re (expletive) right I am.” She was booked into jail on charges of assault, resisting arrest, malicious mischief and threatening a public servant.
4:42 a.m. A Bainbridge driver in a Dodge Caliber sideswiped an unoccupied Dodge Caravan parked on the side of SR-305 near Day Road. The driver was cited for driving on the shoulder.
6:49 a.m. A bicyclist collided with a Toyota Corolla on Madison Avenue after the driver pulled out of a parking lot into the bicycle lane. The cyclist was ejected over the vehicle’s hood and thrown into the roadway. The driver was cited for failing to yield.
9:16 a.m. A Bainbridge woman told police that the driver of a dump truck had smeared grease on her windshield and driven away during a confrontation over parking on the shoulder of Blakely Avenue. When contacted by police the truck driver said the woman had parked too close to his truck for him to pull out. He said he had looked into the woman’s car to see if there was any indication as to when she would be back. He had been wearing gloves that had grease on them but said he had not intentionally smeared her window. He said the woman had returned to her car and yelled that he should not be parking on the shoulder and then “flipped” him off as he drove away. The woman told police she had unintentionally parked too close to the truck and had returned to find the truck driver rubbing grease all over her windshield. She said she chased the truck after it pulled out and wanted the driver cited. The woman’s car appeared to have greasy residue on its windshield and the napkin she used to clean it was entered into evidence. The case was forwarded to prosecutors for review.
10 a.m. A 12-foot aluminum Sears rowboat belonging to a Port Angeles man was stolen from the Waterfront Park Dock sometime after April 20. The boat had a patchy white paint job and no WN numbers.
12:02 p.m. A Wallace Way resident reported a bicycle stolen from her front porch. The bike was a silver Raleigh with a downward slanted center bar and a basket.
12:38 p.m. An officer collected an abandoned bike from Crystal Springs Road. A resident said the bike had been ditched when a neighbor chased a few teens off the beach. The resident had left the bike by his driveway for a week in case its owner returned. The bike was a woman’s white Huffy 12-speed. It was placed in found property.
10:18 p.m. A Bainbridge driver was stopped on Sportsman Club road for driving with a suspended license and expired tabs. He was booked and released.
APRIL 23
3:31 p.m. A male Woodward Middle School student was seen suspiciously passing an Altoid tin to a female student in the cafeteria after school. A school employee searched the female student and recoverd the tin from her person. An officer found the tin to contain marijuana weighing less than a gram. The girl was arrested and she admitted to having smoked marijuana with the male student and another girl before school. She said the male student had given her the marijuana because he thought he would be searched. The male student was arrested and confirmed that he had purchased the marijuana using $20 his parents had given him to buy food. He admitted passing the tin to the female student. The case was forwarded to the juvenile prosecutor for charging.
5:14 p.m. A Bainbridge driver was cited for inattention after his Jeep Cherokee clipped the rear passenger side of a PT Cruiser on SR-305 near Day Road. The causing driver said he had momentarily fallen asleep and hadn’t seen traffic slowing until it was too late.
11:36 p.m. A Bainbridge driver in a red truck was cited on Sportsman Club road for driving with an expired license. The driver parked the truck and called a taxi.
APRIL 24
1:22 p.m. The driver of a black Mercedes Benz was cited for driving with an expired license on Baker Hill Road.
5:42 A Wing Point Way resident found an abandoned grey moutain bike at the entrance to Hawley Cove Park. Police placed the bicycle in found property.
APRIL 25
11:57 a.m. A Bainbridge woman reported suspected fraud. She said she had responded to an ad on Craigslist posted by a “Germini Interiors” company in England, looking for someone to process furniture orders in the U.S. She said she exchanged emails with the company for a month and eventually received a cashiers check for $4,620. She was instructed to deposit the money into her own account and wire two payments of $1,500 to persons in South Carolina. She was told to keep 5 percent of the money and await instructions of handling the remaining sum. Her bank, however, said the check was a fake. The woman lost no money in the incident but was advised by police to monitor her credit report for signs of identity theft.
3:58 p.m. A Wallace Way resident reported that a bicycle had been taken from her front porch a month before. She decided to report the theft after hearing of a similar incident from her neighbor. The bicycle was a red and orange 21-speed Trek mountain bike. The responding officer recalled having previously contacted a littering suspect with a similar bike, but had found no report of theft when he ran the bike’s serial number at the time. After hearing of the theft the officer attempted to recontact the suspect at his campsite near Ace Hardware but was unable to locate him or the bicycle. The investigation continues.
