Bainbridge Island’s first — and only — recreational marijuana store has been granted a business license by city hall.

Brendan Hill and Steven Kessler, the owners of the pot shop on Day Road,

announced earlier this month their new business would open sometime in June. Called Paper & Leaf, it will be located at 8040 Day Road West, in the formerly occupied by Blue Sky Woodworks.

The business was given the go-ahead last month by the Washington State Liquor Control Board, and the company has been awaiting a business license from the city.

City spokeswoman Kellie Stickney said Tuesday the license has been reviewed and approved.

“It’s in the mail. It may already be in their hands,” she said.

Paper & Leaf did not immediately return a call for comment from the Review late Tuesday.
