A 17-year-old Bainbridge Island teen was cited for speeding after the Washington State Patrol said he hit another driver who was waiting to turn off Highway 104 south of Port Townsend Saturday afternoon.

According to the State Patrol, the teenager was driving a 1994 Ford F150 pickup truck and was heading east when a Jeep that was traveling in front of him passed a 2005 Chevrolet Monte Carlo that was waiting to make a left-hand turn off the highway.

The Jeep driver passed the stopped vehicle on the right shoulder and the Bainbridge driver didn’t see the turning vehicle in time and struck it from behind.

The driver of the other car, a 37-year-old Port Ludlow man, was injured in the crash and was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.

The accident occurred just after 3 p.m. Feb. 28 about 20 miles south of Port Townsend.

The Bainbridge driver was not hurt in the crash.
