Three Bremerton youth found out they need to be careful in which neighborhood they play “ding, dong, ditch.”

They might want to avoid the 7600 block of Berkeley Place NE in Bremerton.

They recently were wearing masks and hoods and pounding on people’s doors and running away into the woods. They were caught on video footage at one of the homes.

When approached by a Kitsap County deputy at about 8:40 p.m. June 4, one first denied then admitted doing it after seeing the video.

The reporting party said she thought someone was trying to break in, and saw the trio run past a playground into a ravine. She also reported hearing fireworks.

But one of the youth reported they actually had been shot at. Other deputies searched around and found some shell casings.

That man said he was in his house and thought he heard a “bowling ball hit the wall.” He said he went to his safe and got a gun.

When he went outside and saw the three boys he felt threatened that they were going to charge at him. He admitted shooting in their general direction, the police report says.

That 39-year-old man was charged in Kitsap County Superior Court June 5 with second-degree assault. Bail was set at $50,000. If convicted, he faces a maximum of 10 years in prison and a $20,000 fine.

Felony warrant

A 21-year-old Port Orchard man was arrested in Puyallup June 6 on a Kitsap County Superior Court warrant for first-degree robbery.

If convicted, the maximum sentence is life in prison and a $50,000 fine. He is being held on $250,000 bail.

On May 9, police were called at 11:27 p.m. to a grocery store parking lot on South Street in Port Orchard.

The victim said she was talking to her boyfriend on the phone when a man with a face mask and sunglasses pulled a gun on her and said, “Give me all your money.”

She didn’t have any, grabbed the gun barrel and told her boyfriend to call 911.

She fought her attacker, and they fell to the ground. He said she’d have to pay him some other way. He partially pulled down her pants. She thought he was going to rape and kill her so she fought even harder, police reports say.

He put his arm around her neck to strangle her, then kneed her in the back before fleeing.

Video footage from a neighbor showed the attack. The victim said she recognized his voice from being in the store earlier. She picked him out of a lineup. He was a suspect in other recent crimes in Kitsap.
