Something about the smoke in the air, hazing up the sky and turning the evening sun blood red gets people into a midsummer funk. It could very well be the resemblance to the LA skyline that has everyone down, but what is certain is that we need to all snap out of it.
On Friday, indulge your creative side by celebrating the island’s many artisans who toil day and night working to bring your their latest creations.
Friday kicks off the Summer Studio Tour, where island artists will once more throw open their doors and present their wonderful wares to guests and visitors from near and far alike.
The popular and free, self-guided art show will once more be held in four different island studios, and feature works from more than 40 regional artists in a variety of media, including paint, photography, jewelry, pottery, wearables, glass, fibers, metals, sculpture and wood.
The studio stops making up this year’s tour are: Dancing Spirit Studio (7021 Fletcher Bay Road NE), Sylvia Carlton’s Studio (1245 Grow Ave. NW), Weissman Studio (10149 NE Roberts Road) and Hidden Cove Pottery & Tile (7176 NE Hidden Cove Road).
Forty-three regional artists, chosen through a jury-based selection process, will be displaying their works and discussing technique and process, spread amongst the four studios, all of which are open to visitors from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.
For complete details including a list of studios, artists, photos and a map, go to www.bistudiotour.com. Brochures can be downloaded from the website and also found at the Bainbridge Island Chamber of Commerce in downtown Winslow.
Not to be confused with the Summer Studio Tour, the Working Studio Tour will also be kicking off their weekend-long summer show with a special artists’ reception from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday.
This year’s show, however, is a new take on the traditional celebration, which has brought visitors and local art lovers alike to select studios around the island since 2013.
Guest artists on tap to appear at Mesolini (13291 Madison Ave.) include: Jerry Davis, Sandra Sanchez Palacios, Isaac Swanson, Margaret Gibbs, Anne Air, James Bender, Ethan Currier, Constance Ducar, Asha Kent and Irene Clark.
Founded in 2013, Bainbridge Working Studios is a collective of artists who regularly open their private studios to the public to educate, inspire and demonstrate. Visit www.biworkingstudios.com or www.mesolini.com to learn more.
