Best Bets for Aug. 4–6 | The Bainbridge Blab

This weekend follows what supposed to be the hottest couple of days yet this year. Hopefully you were able to keep your cool and coast your way into the weekend without succumbing to the heat.

At 8 p.m. Friday head on over to Battle Point Park for the return of Movies in the Park.

Visitors to Battle Point Park are invited to find seating in front of the park district’s new inflatable movie screen for a free showing of family-friendly films along with some light concessions. This Friday’s screening of “A Dog’s Purpose” will begin at dusk.

“A Dog’s Purpose” is a dramedy that follows the lives of a dog as he is reincarnated as different breeds belonging to various owners. Over the course of multiple lifetimes, the pup’s path continuously intersects with the life of a boy who rescued the pooch in 1962.

The Bainbridge Island Metropolitan Park & Recreation District sponsors a variety of special events for all ages throughout the community. To find out more about special events, or receive emails about upcoming events, email helen@biparks.org.

On Saturday head over to the Strawberry Hill Skatepark for Strawberry Jam, where Krush Kulesza will be organizing the event, which seeks to smooth out some of the wrinkles that have formed on the park’s surface.

“Over the years of use and exposure to the elements, the skatepark has begun to show it’s age with a rougher riding surface and the various cracks and chips that come with being 16 years old,” Kulesza said.

The event is looking to attract all sorts of islanders (not just skateboarders) and will see skateboarding by people of all ages and skill levels, music and a small raffle. There will also be a barbecue and drinks available, with donations encouraged. All proceeds gathered at the event will go to future maintenance and restoration of the park.

Later that night head down to Bainbridge Performing Arts and give those abs a workout with some hearty laughs with The Edge Improv as they deliver an ingeniously improvised evening of on-the-spot comedy, all from audience suggestion, at 7:30 p.m.

For more than two decades, the troupe’s riotous antics have inspired rave reviews from people from all walks of life.

Tickets are $16 for adults, and $12 for seniors, students, youth, military and teachers, at 206-842-8569 or www.bainbridgeperformingarts.org.

On Sunday, relax by taking a day off and rest assured that you have (hopefully) made it through the hottest part of summer.
