BHS, Eagle Harbor rank among top schools in nation

Both Bainbridge and Eagle Harbor High Schools made it onto the U.S. News’ national Best High School list this year, and BHS cracked the top 10 in Washington state.

U.S. News reviewed nearly 25,000 high schools on six weighted criteria, then assigned each school a point value based on their findings. The survey team distilled massive amounts of public data from the U.S. Department of Education, state assessments, high school graduation rates and College Board and International Baccalaureate exams.

Surveyors judged the schools based on: college readiness (30%), or how many seniors took an Advanced Placement or International Baccalaureate class and passed; breadth of college curriculum (10%), or how many AP or IB classes seniors took at once; state standardized test scores (20%) and whether those scores exceeded U.S. News’ expectations of the school (20%); and how well underserved students did (10%).

Out of 17,655 American schools, including charter, magnet and traditional public schools, BHS ranked 418th in the country and sixth out of 753 public schools in the state, with a score of 97.63/100. Eagle Harbor swooped in at No. 12,904 nationally and 224th in the state, with a score of 26.91/100.

Eight other Washington high schools ranked among the top 500 in the country. The Tesla STEM High School in Redmond ranked first in the state and third in the nation, with a score of 99.98/100.
