BHS principal Jake Haley to take job in California

Jake Haley, principal of Bainbridge High School, has accepted a new job as principal of Costa Mesa High School in Newport-Mesa School District in California.

Jake Haley, principal of Bainbridge High School, has accepted a new job as principal of Costa Mesa High School in Newport-Mesa School District in California.

“Jake is an outstanding educator who has made significant contributions to our district as a student leader, teacher, and administrator,” said Bainbridge Island Superintendent Faith Chapel.

“He will be greatly missed by everyone who has worked with him,” she said.

District officials said Haley learned about the opportunity only a few weeks ago and made his decision based on family needs and priorities. This move will allow Haley to be closer to family residing in California.

“This has been one of the most challenging and difficult decisions that I’ve had to make in my professional career,” he said. “For 28 years, Bainbridge has been my home as I’ve evolved as a student, teacher, coach and principal. I will deeply miss the students and staff of Bainbridge High School who have enriched my life in countless ways.”

Haley will finish out the school year as principal of Bainbridge High School and start his new job on July 1.

In the meantime, the district will be making decisions within a few days on next steps and transition plans.

“We’re committed to ensuring Bainbridge High School continues to have strong leadership that supports the students, staff and school community,” Chapel said.

Haley started as an associate principal at BHS in July 2010. He took over as principal last July when Brent Peterson retired.
