BI teacher charged with vehicular assault

A Bainbridge Island School District teacher has been charged with felony vehicular assault following an accident that sent a Poulsbo man to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.

According to charging documents filed by Kitsap County deputy prosecuting attorney Kellie L. Pendras, Elaina Danielle Weinbach was charged as a result of driving while under the influence. She was released from the county jail Dec. 6 following the accident that seriously injured Robert B. White, 50, Dec. 3.

The Washington State Patrol incident report states that Weinbach was driving a 2016 Jetta Volkswagen southbound on Highway 305 near Johnson Way in Poulsbo when she allegedly crossed the centerline on a turn and collided into White’s 2005 Chevy Cavalier.

Both vehicles were totaled.

WSP trooper Nickolas Lull reported that White was trapped in his car until the Poulsbo Fire Department could cut him from the vehicle. White was flown by helicopter to Harborview.

Weinbach’s blood-alcohol level was higher than .08 and THC level exceeded 5.00 two hours after the accident.

White’s condition is unknown.

BISD public relations officer Erin Bishoff said, “BISD is unable to provide further comments at this time as it is a personal matter, not a school district issue.”
