The Winter Studio Tour on Bainbridge Island is Dec. 6-8 and will feature many new artists and art forms.
With 54 juried artists at five venues, the free, self-guided tour takes place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day and is the 41st annual winter event.
Many new artists and art forms are in this year’s tour, including works like Paper Mache vessels made of torn paper, fabric and thread by Kate Dwyer; classical-style oil paintings with transparent layers built up using opaque layers of paint to create narrative, mood and atmosphere by Amy Divis; a rainbow of exotic hardwoods incorporated into Japanese Kumiko lamps by Dale Nelson; otherworldly equine pastel paintings that transcend traditional boundaries, by Kim McElroy; and jewelry adornments, using metalsmithing practices influenced by Viking Age hoards, Islamic Mashrabiyas, mid-century modern aesthetics by Tegan Wallace.
Expect to find a wide variety of art mediums, such as glass, watercolors, mixed media, pastel, metal work, sculpture, fiber, jewelry, pottery, paintings, photography, garden art, wearables, wood, mosaics and furniture.
Studio Tour manager Dinah Satterwhite said that each studio has an exquisite complement of artists and mediums. “Meeting the artists, talking about their craft, learning about the tools and methods that they use – it really deepens people’s love for art, and makes their connection to the art and artists that much richer.”
Five studios and community halls are participating, including: Elemental Furnishings’ studio owned by wood/paper/metal artists Kathryn LaFond and George Brooks; The Filipino-American Hall; the Masonic Center; the American Legion Hall; and the Grange Hall. Each location has five to 18 artists, all there to share their art, their stories and their inspirations.
