Bainbridge Island School District Director Dave Pollock announced his resignation from the board Thursday. Pollock, who represents the fourth district, will serve through the Aug. 26 board meeting.

Pollock, the longest-serving board member, is resigning due to increased responsibility and travel of his work, he said.

“Dave has given seven years to the school district and through some very challenging circumstances – good times and bad – and has just been a wonderful, wonderful member of the board,” Supt. Faith Chapel said. “Certainly his financial expertise is something that has been very beneficial.”

After Pollock’s resignation, Board Vice President Mary Curtis will become the longest-serving director. Curtis was elected in 2005.

“My kids have graduated now and I think it’s important that we have school board members who have kids in the school district,” Pollock said. “I encourage the board, as people apply for my district, to take that into consideration. I think Mike [Spence] is actually the only one after I leave with kids in the school district. School board members tend to get a lot of information from those parents who they socialize with.”

Applicants must be from the fourth district, Board President Patty Fielding said, and an application will be available on the district website.

Qualified candidates will be notified by mail for interviews, which will also be held in a public setting, she said.
