As summer comes to a close, it’s time to prepare for the new school year.
Bainbridge Island School District is planning to welcome back 3,484 students for the first day of school Sept. 5. Kindergarten students begin Sept. 8. Whether you’re a student, parent or teacher there are some things to be aware of.
Student check-in
Families may complete the annual back-to-school check-in process for new and returning students. Guardians of returning students may access their Skyward account to update and verify information and emergency contacts. Families with new BISD students may enroll on the district’s New Student Enrollment page or may contact the Student Records coordinator for assistance at 206-780-1354 or by email at studentrecords@bisd303.org.
Supply lists
School supply lists are posted on each school website; visit www.Bisd303.org. If families are in need of school supplies, contact the front office or your student counselor.
School meals
Free and reduced-price meals may be obtained by any student — at any time during the school year — whose family income falls within the guidelines set by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Families must reapply each school year.
Those who qualify may also qualify for additional benefits such as waived class fees and athletics, ASB and testing fees. For details, call 206-780-1844.
Volunteering
BISD requires all volunteers to complete or renew their clearances before helping in any capacity. This process can take up to two weeks, please plan ahead as it may take longer to process applications. Contact volunteer@bisd303.org for details.
Vaccines
Kitsap Public Health Department reminds families that, “Childhood immunization rates dropped during the COVID-19 pandemic. It’s important to catch up on missed check-ups and immunizations so we can keep our families and our community as healthy as possible heading into the fall and winter.”
Immunizations are free for all children younger than 19 in this state; health insurance is not required.
BISD immunization requirements may be found www.bisd303.org/Page/3439. To schedule an immunization call 360-728-2007, email immunizations@kitsappublichealth.org or visit kitsappublichealth.org.
