A boat belonging to Sail Kingston Cove was stolen Aug. 9, and the organization is exhausting all avenues to try to retrieve it.

The coach/safety boat was stolen early in the morning from a secure dock at the Port of Kingston, a news release reads. The boat is used by instructors to coach kids on the water and ensure their safety. It’s a ridged inflatable with an aluminum bottom and fresh black bottom paint, and a Honda 4-stroke 15 horsepower motor with serial number BALJ-1300375.

A video, provided by the port, shows a person arriving by boat to the dock. After untying the coach boat, the thief took it to the end of the dock and took off in his boat with the stolen boat towed behind it.

“This is so disheartening,” board member Rita Osborn said. “Stealing from a kids organization, that relies on donations, is despicable. We don’t expect this kind of thing to happen in Kingston and hope that the person who did this will have second thoughts and return our boat. The safety of our kids on the water is a top priority, and the kind of boat that was stolen is very important to the day-to-day operation of our program.”

Sail Kingston Cove is a nonprofit, youth sailing organization, dedicated to teaching kids ages 5 to 18 how to sail in the summer, and it supports the high school team in the fall. The organization relies on donations and volunteers to include as many kids as possible in the summer youth sailing program.
