Students at Woodward Middle School on Bainbridge Island were evacuated from their classrooms after a bomb threat was discovered Tuesday morning.
The threat came in the form of a brief message scraped into the paint of a bathroom stall’s wall in a boys restroom. It simply stated “Bomb 1:00.”
The threat was discovered by a student who reported it to school authorities, who in turn called police and evacuated the school.
“As it played out it was determined that it was probably a student,” said Pam Keyes, community relations coordinator for the Bainbridge Island School District. “Nothing of intent…it was determined that it was a prank.”
Police conducted a search of the building along with some members of the teaching staff. No explosive or suspicious devices were found. One o’clock came and went and students were allowed back into the school around 1:20 p.m.
Woodward Middle School Principal Mike Florian said that the evacuation is the same as a fire drill and that students are familiar the practice. The evacuation only lasted about 45 minutes according to Florian.
