BELLEVUE/SEATTLE – The Bainbridge boys basketball team will play for a district title, but the girls won’t play on anymore.
Bainbridge defeated Bellevue 52-51 Tuesday night in overtime in a 3A Sea-King district semifinal game to move onto the district championship game while the Spartan girls were eliminated by Rainier Beach 54-40 in a 3A Sea-King district loser-out game.
The boys’ game against the Wolverines was tight for most of the game. Bellevue tied it up at some key moments in the fourth, but they couldn’t finish at the end.
Bainbridge then took control in overtime by scoring the first five points of the period.
Caleb Davis knocked down three of four free throws in the last 30 seconds to put Bainbridge ahead.
The Wolverines hit a three in the last second, but after fouling Nick Fling to send him to the line, they couldn’t get their last second attempt to go down.
For the girls, they had a five point lead going into halftime, but Beach came out and worked their way back to take a five point lead.
The Spartans tied it at 32 going into the fourth, then traded baskets for the opening minutes of the period before Beach hit a three and took off from there.
The boys play Saturday at 6 p.m. at Bellevue Community College for the 3A Sea-King District 2 title against O’Dea.
The girls finish with a record of 14-12.
