Bremerton man charged with hate crime

Kitsap County Superior Court cases

A 38-year-old Bremerton man was in Kitsap County Superior Court Oct. 22 charged with a hate crime.

Bail was $290,000. He’s also charged with two counts of second-degree assault involving strangulation. He faces 25 years in prison and $50,000 in fines.

Court records say Kitsap deputies responded at 7 a.m. Oct. 21 to NW Windjammer Court in Bremerton.

One of the juvenile victims alleged his father put a rope around his friend’s neck. Prior to the assault, the man asked the friend if he was bisexual/gay. “Yes, is it a crime to be gay in this house?” the son’s friend asked. He freed himself and ran into the backyard.

The friend alleged that he witnessed the dad assault his son. The dad used a cell phone to record them while telling them to kiss in an attempt to embarrass them. The dad also joked about the friend being a princess. The son alleged his dad chased him around the house and lassoed him around the chest. He also freed himself and went to the backyard.

The mom was not home at the time, but when she returned she showed officers video surveillance equipment. She said there was a gun in the house, and she didn’t like it because there are four children there. The gun was loaded with no safety, and it was accessible to everyone. There was a protection order against the suspect that prohibited him from having a weapon.

The dad said his son and friend were roughhousing all night, having a great time, playing and laughing. He played with them for a while. He said the friend told him his boyfriend likes to tie him up, but the dad said that’s nobody’s business. He was adamant he didn’t assault anyone or ask the friend about his sexual orientation.

A 40-year-old Enumclaw man sent his ex-girlfriend a text with a photo that showed the trumpet tattoo on his hand.

That proved he violated a court order. He was in Superior Court Oct. 22 arrested on a warrant from July for felony domestic violence violation of a court order.

Bail was $100,000. He faces five years in prison and $10,000 in fines.

Court records show at 8:33 p.m. Feb. 18 Kitsap deputies responded to a Port Orchard address. The victim said her ex-boyfriend contacted her despite a court order. She was concerned as she had a new phone and number through Scarlet Road, an organization that helps with human trafficking victims. She said her ex- has friends who are dangerous and involved in that type of crime.

The victim was concerned that her ex- was staying in contact with her daughter for that reason. A text included her ex-boyfriend’s tattoo of a trumpet on his hand. A deputy called the phone number, and said the suspect was lying to him when he denied contacting his ex-girlfriend. He then hung up on the deputy. A warrant was issued for his arrest.
