Playwright workshop
Island Theatre is offering a two-hour workshop on writing a short play led by Tony Award-nominated actor and playwright John Cariani.
The workshop will be held March 26 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Bainbridge Public Library. Admission is by donation. No tickets are required although attendees are encouraged to pre-register at www.islandtheatre.org.
Cariani is best known for his play “Almost, Maine,” which opened off-Broadway in 2006, and has since become one of the most popular plays in the world. The play has received over 5,000 productions and has been translated into over a dozen languages.
It’s also the most frequently produced play in North American high schools, outpacing classics like “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” and “Our Town.” As an actor, Carianai is best known for his role on NBC’s long-running drama “Law & Order,” on which he played Forensics tech Beck for five seasons.
Swing concert
Ranger and the “Re-Arrangers” with Dave Stewart will perform from 7-9 p.m., March 25 at the Bainbridge Island Museum of Art.
Led by Ranger Sciacca on violin, the band evokes the spirit of a Paris cafe and the raucous energy of a Romani campsite with their version of Hot Club Swing.
Admission is by donation. Reservations are recommended: email info@RangerSwings.com.
Young gymnasts
The Olympic Gymnastics Club will be sending a number of members to the XCEL State Championships March 31-April 2 in Pasco.
One member is Siena Sumsky, 8, of Bainbridge Island, who took first in the all-around in her division.
