Shared housing

Helpline House has partnered with Kitsap Homes for Compassion to create a shared housing pilot program on Bainbridge Island.

Workers who make between $15,000 and $61,000 a year are eligible.

Private rooms in a spacious shared house in the heart of Winslow will rent for about $800 a month, which will include utilities and internet. You must be at least age 18. Couples are allowed, but pets are not.

If successful, they hope to add more shared workforce housing in the future.

Temporary closure

Joe’s Restaurant is set to undergo a temporary closure starting Jan. 1, 2024.

The closure will create an opportunity for the restaurant to undertake upgrades to equipment, improvements to the kitchen infrastructure, and some tweaks to its menu. Joe’s Restaurant anticipates reopening in early April.

“The decision to move to a more seasonal model reflects the realities of the island’s business cycle. We believe this strategic move will not only enhance our offerings but also contribute to the sustainability and longevity of Joe’s Restaurant,” said Joe Raymond, general manager of Pleasant Beach Village, which operates the eatery.

Free meal

A free ham or vegetarian dinner prepared by Bainbridge Island restaurants for the Holiday Cheer Community Meal will be available to anyone in need of holiday spirit Dec. 22 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
