A 40-year-old Poulsbo man was arrested for second-degree theft last week after police alleged the man stole a bicycle from Classic Cycle in downtown Winslow and tried to escape via the Bainbridge ferry.

Ryan Lee Freer was booked into Kitsap County Jail on Aug. 24 and charged with the felony count of theft in Kitsap County District Court on Thursday, Aug. 25.

According to court documents, two witnesses saw Freer snatch a bicycle worth $3,600 from the Winslow shop just before 3 p.m. last Wednesday. The pair chased Freer to the Bainbridge Island Ferry Terminal, and quickly contacted a Washington State Patrol trooper at the terminal.

The trooper found Freer trying to hide on the walk-on ramp at the terminal, and he was taken into custody.

Freer declined to talk to police, but the witnesses identified him as the man who had stolen the bicycle.

Freer was scheduled to make his next court appearance late this week.

Conviction of second-degree theft can result in a maximum sentence of five years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
