The Bainbridge Island American Legion Hall will hold a forum next week for general election candidates in the 23rd Legislative District (Pos. 2) and the Kitsap County Board of Commissioners races.

The forum is scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 28 from 7-9:30 p.m. at the Colin Hyde Post#172 American Legion, 7880 Bucklin Hill Road.

The forum will feature three races, including the 23rd District incumbents: Rep. Sherry Appleton (D) vs. Peter DeBoer (R); and Rep. Christine Rolfes (d) vs. James Olsen (R). Incumbent Kitsap County Commissioner Josh Brown (D) and Abby Burlingame (R) will also attend.

Organizer Fred Scheffler said the event will include introductory and conclusive statements by the candidates, who will also be asked to ask questions of their opponents. Most questions, however, will be asked by the audience. Rod Stevens will serve as the event’s moderator.

Scheffler said the American Legion also hopes to hold a forum involving U.S. Rep. Jay Inslee (D-Bainbridge Island) and challenger James Watkins, a Republican from Redmond. Scheffler said he is trying to get the two together during the second week of October.

Kitsap County League of Women’s Voters will hold a forum for the 23rd Legislative District candidates at 7-8:30 p.m. on Sept. 29 at Poulsbo City Hall.
