The Bainbridge Island Classic Car Cruise-In was held July 4, and, as usual, last week on the last Tuesday of the month.
The traditional island event has been ongoing for 18 years, typically starting at Bainbridge First Baptist Church at the corner of Highway 305 and Madison Avenue.
This year, the event was included as part of Bainbridge’s modified July 4 celebration, and instead started at the Sakai Middle School parking lot. It was open to the public, and no fees or advanced reservation was required.
Hamburgers and hotdogs were served as well.
Besides a love for classic cars, one of the main purposes of the event is to help local kids through Project Backpack. Donations are accepted to provide essential school supplies for BI students in need, new clothes and assistance with school fees. The car cruise has been donating to the organization since 2002. It is put on by Aaron and Micah Strom of Modern Collision Rebuild & Service.
“We had a great turnout yesterday,” the business’s Facebook post last week reads. “Over seventy vehicles showed up and lots of people just stopped by to walk around, grab a burger and look at all the cars. We raised $1,361 for Project Backpack, which will help kids prepare for the new school year.”
