A subdivision proposed for the Cave Avenue neighborhood off Winslow Way East will be discussed next week during a public meeting scheduled before city Hearing Examiner Margaret Klockars.

The appeals hearing involves a development application by Alice and John Tawresey for an eight-lot (four acres) multifamily subdivision with each lot containing two to four units to accommodate a total of 20 residences.

The event will be held at 9 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 1 in council chambers. The public is invited to attend and make oral and written comments, or may submit materials later to the hearing examiner’s clerk at city hall if not in attendance.

The city issued a Determination of Nonsignificance (DNS) under the State Environmental Policies Act (SEPA) on Aug. 20. Any appeals of the determination will be heard at the public hearing. (A Sept. 17 hearing was rescheduled.)

As planned, the apartment units would be located between Cave Avenue and State Route 305, about a half-mile north of Winslow Way East.

Dave Ward and Neil Johannsen, members of the Cave Neighborhood Community Council, said the group opposes the subdivision for several reasons, including potential traffic congestion and its closeness to Winslow Ravine.
