Central Market stores pull peanut products as a precaution

A handful of peanut products have been pulled from the shelves of Central Market and Town and Country stores, which include stores in Poulsbo and on Bainbridge Island.

Michael Latham, director of Food Safety for Central Market, said the peanut products were pulled from the shelves as a precautionary, proactive measure. The peanut products in question were purchased from the Peanut Corp. of America, according to the Food and Drug Administration, and may pose a salmonella risk.

The recall is part of a national recall that dates back to January, Latham said.

“No one, in any of our stores, has called in with any concerns or complaints that they got sick from any of the recalled products,” he said. “This is a precautionary, voluntary thing to keep the public safe.”

A fact sheet regarding the recall can be downloaded at the Central Market Web site.

A list of recalled products is available on the FDA’s Web site.
