Charles Guy Cauthers passed away May 21, 2016 after a short stay at Harrison Medical Center.
Guy was born Sept. 27, 1935 in Bismarck, North Dakota to Charles and Muriel Cauthers.
His family moved to Washington where Guy graduated from Washougal High School at age 16. He graduated from Clark College and went on to graduate from Western Washington University, earning a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in education. While there he met and married his sweetheart, Linda Ford.
They moved to Bainbridge Island where Guy landed a job teaching sixth grade at McDonald School, then math at Commodore on Bainbridge. He added courses in chemistry and science throughout his teaching career there. He loved the sciences, and a fortunate few students got to build and launch model rockets in the Rocketry Club under Mr. Cauther’s supervision.
Together, Guy and Linda raised four children on Bainbridge Island. The family camped across the United States several times, and spent happy summers in the Washington mountains, and at the Pacific Coast. He enjoyed playing his guitars and singing, performing with local groups, and doing solo gigs from time to time. He performed in productions of the Bainbridge Light Opera Association (later to become Bainbridge Performing Arts), and various chorale groups.
Guy was involved in numerous community service groups volunteering with Boy Scouts, Kiwanis of Bainbridge Island, and was an active leader in Seabold United Methodist Church where he and Linda worshiped throughout their 60 years together.
Guy and Linda participated in the Poulsbo Photography Club building an impressive portfolio of artful images from life on Bainbridge Island, their travels abroad to exotic locations, and their many motorcycle adventures. They continued their travels together managing to fit in a daily friendly Scrabble competition.
He is survived by his wife, Linda Cauthers; his four children, Stephen, Lynn, Debra, and David Cauthers; his sister Cathy Aune (Darrell) of Monmouth, Oregon; and his two granddaughters, Morgan and Aurora Cauthers-Knox.
A Celebration of Life service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 8, at the Kiana Lodge, Poulsbo.
Guy was well known and loved by many. All are welcome to join us in remembering his life.
Remembrances in his honor can be made to KUOW and to Seabold Methodist Church of Bainbridge Island.
