All nine candidates for Bainbridge City Council are set to meet at an Aug. 10 forum, sponsored by the League of Women Voters and the Bainbridge Chamber of Commerce. Three candidates are registered in each race for the three available seats on the council.
The forum will come just one week before the Aug. 17 state primary, which will eliminate one candidate from each council race. Ballots will be mailed by July 24.
Madelyn Fox, unit leader for the League of Women Voters of Kitsap County, said her group had hoped to arrange the forum sooner, but scheduling conflicts for various candidates postponed the event.
Still, she hopes the forum will be useful for many voters.
“We’re looking at a lot of new candidates and not everyone really knows who they are,” Fox said.
Of the nine candidates, only one, Debbie Vancil (North Ward), is an incumbent.
Fox said the format for the forum has not been fully determined but it will be moderated and candidates will answer a standard set of questions along with questions from the audience.
The forum will start at 7 p.m., Aug. 10 in City Hall Council Chambers.
