The city will be hosting a household chemical collection event this weekend.
At no charge, the city’s Operations Maintenance Facility on Hidden Cove Road will be collecting household waste all day Saturday, Sept. 14.
The city will accept oil-based paints, stains, adhesives, aerosols, paint thinners, corrosive cleaners, yard chemicals and pool or spa chemicals.
Those who would like to drop off chemical-based household items are asked not to bring containers larger than five gallons.
Likewise, containers brought to the collection will not be emptied and returned to the owner at the event.
Items that will not be accepted are latex paint, oil, antifreeze, household or auto batteries, fluorescent bulbs/tubes and propane tanks.
Latex paint is considered non-hazardous and can be solidified with cat litter or concrete mix. The other items listed as unacceptable have local recycling options.
The city Operations Maintenance Facility is located at 7305 Hidden Cove Road NE. It will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 14 to collect household chemical waste.
The collection is provided by the city of Bainbridge Island, the Rotary Club of Bainbridge Island and Kitsap County Public Works.
