Students at Bainbridge High School were back in class Wednesday, a day after a bomb threat forced the district to cancel school Tuesday morning.
A team of 20, including Bainbridge Police, Washington State Patrol, bomb-sniffing dogs and school staff scoured the campus Tuesday before determining there was no bomb, said Deputy Police Chief Mark Duncan.
Regularly scheduled activities at the school resumed Tuesday afternoon, including the boys basketball game at Paski Gymnasium.
“This has been a very disruptive and disappointing day at Bainbridge High School,” said Principal Brent Peterson, in a letter to parents. “However, I do thank and compliment students, staff, emergency responders and parents for their cooperation and orderly response to a stressful situation.”
Following the threat, which came during finals week, students from BHS and Eagle Harbor High School were evacuated to the BHS stadium and neighboring Ordway Elementary. Some students, on buses headed to school when the threat was discovered, were diverted to Woodward Middle School.
Duncan said police have some leads, but no suspects as they continue to investigate the threat.
“It’s not just a prank when it results in canceled school and that many people spending their day investigating,” he said.
Making a bomb threat, he said, is a felony.
Wednesday was a full school day at BHS. The school postponed the half-day schedule for final exams to Thursday, Friday and Monday. Second semester classes will begin Jan. 30.
