U.S. Rep. Derek Kilmer will visit Bainbridge Island twice in the coming week as he makes his way across Washington’s 6th Congressional District during a busy start to Congress’ work period away from Washington, D.C.
Kilmer, a Gig Harbor Democrat in his second term in the House, will be on Bainbridge this weekend to host a 9:30 a.m. showing Saturday, Aug. 5 of Al Gore’s sequel to “An Inconvenient Truth.”
“An Inconvenient Sequel: Truth to Power” will be screened at the Lynwood theater, and afterward, Kilmer will comment on how citizens can get more involved to help stop climate change. There will also be tables in the lobby of groups working on this issue, including the Citizen’s Climate Lobby.
Kilmer will then be making the rounds for six town halls that span the week from Sunday, Aug. 6 through Sunday, Aug. 13, with town halls in Chimacum, Tacoma, Port Angeles, Polusbo, Belfair and Aberdeen.
In the coming week alone, the number of town halls (half dozen) will nearly surpass the total number of town halls Kilmer hosted in 2016 (seven).
The town hall in Poulsbo will go from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 9. It will be held at North Kitsap High School in the auditorium.
Kilmer returns to Bainbridge for a congressional update and host a question-and-answer session on Wednesday, Aug. 9 in the senior community center’s Huney Hall in Waterfront Park Community Center.
The session is 2:15 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. The event is free, but reservations are recommended, and organizers warn the space will fill quickly. To reserve a spot call the Bainbridge Island Senior Community Center at 206-842-1616.
