Bainbridge residents will have the opportunity to participate in two Bainbridge law-and-justice candidate forums this month.
Islanders for Collaborative Policing and the National Alliance on Mental Illness, Kitsap County will host a forum this week featuring candidates for the county prosecutor position.
The focus of the forum will center on mental illness and drug dependency.
Prosecutor candidates will discuss how individuals with mental and behavioral problems are currently handled in the local justice system.
They will also answer what they plan to do or continue to do as prosecutor to improve the system for people with mental disabilities.
Jane Cartmell of National Alliance on Mental Illness, Kitsap County will moderate the forum.
An update on Mental Illness and Drug Dependency (MIDD) tax allocations will also be given by Lois Hoell of the MIDD Citizen Advisory Committee.
The forum will be held from 5 to 6:15 p.m. Thursday, July 17 at the Bainbridge Island Waterfront Community Center.
County prosecutor candidates will join candidates for judge in Department 1 of the Kitsap County District Court on Tuesday, July 29.
At this second forum, candidates will speak on a broad range of law-and-justice issues.
Court of Appeals Judge Robin Hunt will moderate the event, which will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. July 29 at Bainbridge Island City Hall.
The public is invited to both events and audience questions are welcome.
