A driver was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle with serious injuries Wednesday night after rolling his car off Eagle Harbor Drive.
The 52-year-old man was heading south just after 10 p.m. when the car left the road, rolled over and landed on its wheels, nose down in a ditch, said Assistant Chief Luke Carpenter of the Bainbridge Island Fire Department.
There were no passengers, and fire crews were forced to extricate the man from the severely damaged vehicle.
Traffic was stalled on Eagle Harbor Drive for about an hour while the man was assessed by medics and ultimately transported to Harborview.
Meanwhile, units from the Poulsbo and North Kitsap fire departments were dispatched to other medical incidents on Bainbridge Island.
Bainbridge police are investigating the cause of the Eagle Harbor Drive accident.
