Delivery driver shows super-villain traits before arrest

A delivery driver trying to elude law enforcement showed super-villain traits as he had to be tased, shot with bean bag and rubber rounds, and bit by a K9 before being taken into custody Sept. 4.

The 31-year-old Port Orchard man was in Superior Court Sept. 5 facing five charges.

Court records show Kitsap deputies responded at 3:47 p.m. to NE Madison Road in Brownsville. The initial dispatch was for harassment as an Amazon driver was calling a customer names and threatening to kill her dogs. Because of the erratic behavior, the homeowner closed the gate so the driver couldn’t leave. He opened it, however, when the driver pointed a gun at him. The witness added the suspect was listening to loud rap music.

Officers arrived and the driver damaged the customer’s vehicle and a patrol vehicle, eluding officers as he drove away. He then hit several mailboxes, and stopped his van and pretended to shoot at officers with his hand, making shooting sounds. He would drive on then throw packages out of the van.

Another officer took out a shield for defense and shot a non-lethal round, hitting the suspect in the leg. The suspect finally was stopped when the van ran over spike strips and his vehicle was pinned between two patrol cars.

He resisted arrest so was tased twice, shot by bean bag rounds, a 40-milimeter rubber round and a K9 bite before being taken into custody. A shield and the muzzle of a rifle were used to hold the suspect down for handcuffing.

He admitted he was under the influence of marijuana and wanted to shoot a UPS driver and his ex-wife’s lover.

Another officer said the suspect, who wore a hat with a marijuana leaf on it, exhibited the effects of drug-induced psychosis. He was sweating profusely, shaking, fidgeting and “would repeat what was said to him like a parrot.”

An aid crew took him to St. Michael Medical Center in Silverdale. A blood draw was made before he was taken to the Kitsap jail in Port Orchard.

Bail was $103,000. He’s charged with second-degree assault with a deadly weapon (10 years in prison, $20,000 in fines); attempting to elude (five years and $10K); driving under the influence (one year, $5K); and hit and run unattended vehicle and property damage (each 90 days, $1K).
