A farewell reception for Bainbridge Island Police Chief Matthew Hamner will be held from 7 to 9:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 1 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints building.

Hamner is stepping down from the chief’s position to become the chief of police in Banning, California.

The Bainbridge gathering will be hosted by the Ramirez and Hepworth families, and the community is welcome to join in saying farewell and best wishes to the Hamner family. The church is at 8677 Madison Ave.

“I’m so grateful and humbled that there has been an event organized where I am able to let the community know how blessed and honored I was to serve here. I’m looking forward to seeing everyone,” Hamner said.
