Haylee Baker and Lindsay Willmann throw back-to-back shutouts while Spartans handle rivals to make it back to Memorial Stadium.
TUKWILA, MERCER ISLAND – The Bainbridge fastpitch team got two standout performances by their top two pitchers to make it to the state tournament while the Bainbridge girls lacrosse team took down their rival islanders in Mercer Island to make it back to the state championship game.
Haylee Baker threw a no-hitter as Bainbridge defeated Ingraham 10-0 in six innnings in the day game.
Chelsie Kakela went 3-4 with four RBIs, just missing hitting for the cycle as she had a single, a double and a triple.
Haylee Baker also went 3-3 while walking just one and striking out eight.
Against Issaquah, Lindsay Willmann threw nine innings, giving up just two hits. She walked three and struck out six.
Bainbridge scored their runs in the ninth on the international tiebreaker, when Kakela drove in Haylee for the first run, then Stephanie Wagner singled up the middle to score Cara Thompson.
The girls lacrosse team took a 7-1 lead before Mercer Island went on a 6-1 run to put them one goal down at halftime.
But the Spartans came out and scored the first four goals while goalie Jo Wallace did her part to turn away numerous shots.
The fastpitch team plays tomorrow at noon against Bishop Blanchet. If they win, they’ll play either Sammamish or Liberty for the district title.
The girls lacrosse team plays Lakeside for the varsity A state championship Saturday at Memorial Stadium at Seattle Center at 1 p.m.
