Learn how to protect your property from the risk of wildfire at a special meeting this Saturday.
Sponsored by the Kitsap Conservation District, the meeting will detail the new Firewise program. The goal of Firewise is to teach homeowners how to protect their property from the outbreak of wildfire, and the program provides information on the effective and simple practices that can potentially save your property from the worst damage of a fire.
To encourage participation, Kitsap Conservation District is offering a cost-sharing opportunity of up to $1,000 to help homeowners prepare their property for the upcoming fire season by reducing fuel and wildfire risk. The conservation district has received a grant from the Washington State Conservation Commission to provide information and conduct risk assessments for property owners, as well as provide cost-sharing opportunities to reduce fuel and yard waste that may feed a potential wildfire.
Interested residents in the focus areas of Gazzam Lake or Grand Forests who are interested in participating in the fuel reduction activity can visit www.firewise.org for more information on the program.
The event will be held at Pru’s House (10549 Mandus Olson Road NE) from 10:30 a.m. to noon Saturday, March 4.
