Former BI Chamber interim director appointed to school board

Leadership at the Bainbridge Island School District selected the first of two new board members during a special session conducted Feb. 25.

Erika Borg, former interim director of the BI Chamber of Commerce, will represent District 2 on the school board. She will be sworn in at the Feb. 27 board meeting — replacing Robert Cromwell, who stepped down in January — and will serve the remainder of Cromwell’s term through November.

Borg’s background is in financial and development consulting, a BISD news release says. Her firm Civic Allies offers various types of planning services for businesses and nonprofits, including fundraising strategies for educational foundations and workforce development for early childhood education.

“(Erika’s) experience working with youth and involvement in the community will be a valuable asset to the district and to the board as we continue to work on equitable opportunities for all of our students,” said board president Mark Emerson. “Her financial skills as a small business owner and experience managing budgets will also be extremely helpful as the district implements its plans for a balanced budget moving forward.”
