All women are invited to attend Savvy Women Exchanging Relevant Views (SWERV) to hear retired career diplomat Omie Kerr discuss learning to take risks beyond the safe and narrow choices of the 1950s.
SWERV will meet from 10:30 a.m. to noon Tuesday, July 9 at Filipino American Hall.
Kerr came of age in a pre-feminist era, having successfully completed her “Mrs.” degree in 1965. Then, sometimes with intention, sometimes living in the moment, sometimes rashly, she felt her world expand as she moved from teaching to joining the State Department’s Foreign Service in her mid-thirties. She practiced a career that would not have been possible for her a even few years earlier. She’ll tell stories of how she and a generation of women navigated the rapid social changes of their time.
