Bainbridge Island Republican Women are sponsoring a public forum on the city of Bainbridge Island’s proposed property tax levy increase that will appear on the November ballot.
Called the “Connecting Bainbridge: SAFE Mobility Levy,” the seven-year, $15 million levy will raise property taxes to pay for roadside improvements for bicyclists and walkers.
If approved by voters in the Nov. 6 General Election, the ballot measure will raise property taxes by 28 cents per $1,000 of assessed property value, according to a city estimate. For the owner of a $660,000 (the median home value on Bainbridge), the property tax bill will rise by $185.
The upcoming forum will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 19 at Casa Rojas Restaurant, in The Pavilion.
Herb Hethcote will speak in favor of the levy, while Doug Rauh will speaking against it.
