Bainbridge Police reported the following incidents:
JUNE 9
9:32 p.m. A police boat was dispatched to the Indianola area to search for 22-foot speed boat reported adrift in gale-force wind conditions. Police were unable to locate the boat.
JUNE 10
10:04 a.m. A Bainbridge resident reported a potential scam. The resident had received a letter and a check for $4,955 from a Canadian “secret shopper” company. The company requested that the resident pose as a customer sending a money gram to a “relative” in Canada, and told her to keep $800 of the money. The woman did not deposit the check. The case was recorded.
6:16 p.m. Residents heard an explosion and found aluminum foil and duct tape on Rockaway Bluff Road. The responding officer noted the smell of gunpowder on the foil and tape. There were no residences in the area, and no damage was caused to the roadway. Several other residents had heard the explosion, but no one had witnessed the event. No suspects.
JUNE 11
11:28 a.m. A citizen turned in jewelry found in front of a store on Winslow Way. Calls were made to the store to see if jewelry had been reported missing; the items were placed in evidence for safekeeping.
1:25 p.m. A vehicle turning left from Hildebrand Lane onto High School Road collided with a vehicle turning left onto High School from the gas station parking lot across the street. Neither driver was injured and no citations were issued.
JUNE 12
2:54 p.m. A school administrator found an unattended backpack in the lunch room containing several cans of beer. A school official opened it to try to identify its owner; books and papers were found among the three unopened cans of Budweiser. School officials attempted to contact the student, but he had apparently left school after lunch. Police were also unable to contact the student. A report was forwarded to prosecutors.
JUNE 13
4:15 p.m. A Silverdale man was arrested on SR-305 and Day Road for driving with a suspended license. The arresting officer later discovered the man had a warrant for driving under the influence and attempted to recontact him but found his voicemail was full.
4:53 p.m. A Port Angeles driver in a Toyota Corolla rearended a Chevy K1 stopped in traffic on SR-305 near the bridge. The Toyota’s driver did not have current insurance and was cited.
JUNE 14
6:53 a.m. Mail, including an empty Netflix DVD envelope, was found in a ditch on Bill Point Drive. The resident who found the mail said odd things had been done to his mailbox recently, including it being tied shut, and a band-aid being used to hold the door closed. An officer contacted the resident whose name was listed in the address on the found mail. He said he believed two Netflix DVDs had been stolen from his mailbox the week before, and that he had previously found eggs and pieces of pottery. No suspects.
9:09 a.m. A Point White Drive resident reported the back window of his 2001 Subaru had been broken out sometime in the previous two days. Nothing had been taken from the vehicle and he found no projectiles inside the vehicle that would indicate how the window was broken. The resident had no suspect information but said this wasn’t the first time his vehicles had been damaged on the road. Repairs to the window were estimated at $300.
