Bainbridge Police reported the following incidents:

SEPTEMBER 20

11:19 p.m. A car was stopped on SR-305 for driving erratically. Both its driver, a California man, and its passenger, a Bainbridge man, appeared intoxicated. The driver denied having drunk alcohol before driving, but performed unsteadily in field sobriety tests and swayed constantly as he stood. He was arrested for driving under the influence. During the arrest the passenger of the vehicle got out and told the officer “You must be a Republican!” The passenger noted that Washington was a Republican state. As the driver was loaded into the patrol car the passenger told the officer he was being a “good little Republican.” “Be a good little Republican and take him to jail,” the passenger said. At Kitsap County Jail the driver provided a breath alcohol test sample of 0.146. The officer told the man he had been lying about not drinking. The man replied that he hadn’t lied, but had simply given the “standard answer to that question.” The man was booked into jail on $5,000 bail. The officer had to drive for several miles with the windows down to clear the odor of alcohol from his patrol car.

SEPTEMBER 22

3:26 p.m. A woman reported three bicycles stolen from her yard on Nakata Place. One was later found at the ferry terminal. The other two, a white mountain bicycle and a blue and silver women’s mountain bicycle were not recovered. The bicycles were valued at $20 each.

SEPTEMBER 23

11:09 a.m. A Jeep Cherokee was stopped on Miller Road because its occupants were not wearing seat belts. The driver, a Bremerton woman, had a suspended license, as did the passenger. The driver was cited and said she would call her mother for a ride.

12:47 p.m. An Agate Point Road resident said she suspected her housecleaner of stealing a bag of beads from her residence. The resident said she had recently told the cleaner she was not happy with some of her work, and the cleaner had not taken the criticism well. A bag of tourmaline beads was discovered missing after the cleaner left that day. The resident said she had just counted the beads that day. She provided police with a description of the cleaner but said she did not want to pursue criminal charges.

8:11 p.m. A citizen reported that he had interrupted a burglary to a garage on Ihland Way and that three juveniles had fled the scene. Police observed the juveniles running toward McDonald’s on High School Road. The trio fled the restaurant when an officer entered, and then ran toward the woods near Key Bank, where the officer ordered them to stop. The officer then handcuffed them and took them into custody. The juveniles said they had purchased clothing and spray paint and stopped to paint the clothing using the lighted carport. The homeowner had assumed the youth were trying to burglarize the garage and chased them away. The juveniles said they ran from officers because they thought they’d be in trouble for making a mess on the pavement. After acknowledging that they should have found a better place to make wardrobe alterations, they were released to their parents.

5:24 p.m. Bainbridge woman reported internet harrassment. She said she had met a Tacoma woman through a online dating service and after seeing her several times had decided to break off contact. But the woman had continued to harrass her via email, online comments and instant messenger. The woman contacted the website’s moderators. Police advised that she contact her internet service provider and obtain a anti-harrassment order from district court.
