Police blotter
Bainbridge Police reported the following incidents:
JUNE 8
1 p.m. An adult son attempted to remove his elderly mother from an island nursing home. The man left the premise when police were called and was located with a companion sitting in lawn chairs at a nearby residence. The pair had no connection to the residence, and said they were simply waiting for a cab they had called. The man showed the officers a binder with documents he said proved he had power of attorney for his mother, but offficers found no evidence that he had the power to remove her from the facility. The officers and the man returned to the care facility, where the man became hostile, shouting obscenities at the officers and staff. He then refused to leave the property and was arrested for trespass. Following a brief stuggle the man was handcuffed and booked into jail on charges of criminal trespass and resisting arrest.
10:16 p.m. An audible alarm was sounded at a Day Road business and police were dispatched. The business’ manager said a former employee who hadn’t worked at the business for 10 years was unlawfully inside the building. Officers found the woman inside the business and handcuffed her. She told police that a secretary had assured it was OK if she slept in the building. The manager confirmed the story with the secretary and the woman was released.
10:48 p.m. Police responded to a Winslow Way cafe where a man was reportedly talking to himself and waving his hands. Employees said the man was a regular, but was acting erratically and they were concerned for his safety. The man was transported to Harrison Medical Center for evaluation.

JUNE 10
10:04 a.m. A Bainbridge resident reported a potential scam. She showed police a letter and a check for $4,955 she had received from a Canadian “secret shopper” company. The letter requested that she pose as a customer sending a money gram to a “relative” in Canada, and told her to keep $800 of the money. The woman did not deposit the check. The case was recorded.
6:16 p.m. Residents heard an explosion and found aluminum foil and duct tape on Rockaway Bluff Road. The responding officer noted the smell of gunpowder on the foil and tape. There were no residences in the area and no damage was caused to the roadway. Several other residents had heard the explosion, but no one had witnessed the event. No suspects.
