Gilbert Jarle Jacobsen, beloved father, brother, and husband, passed away peacefully at his residence on Bainbridge Island on Friday, Nov. 14, 2014. He was 92.
He was born in Kristiansund, Norway on Aug. 29, 1922. A World War II veteran, he served as a boatswain’s mate in the Navy.
He was a proud graduate of the University of Washington and started working in radio as a DJ at the UW. He moved on to sales/advertising for KOL radio, and later became the national sales manager for KIXI Radio before retiring and moving on to become a very successful real estate broker and owner of Perlatti Reality on Bainbridge Island.
His longevity, hard work and sobriety made it possible for his family to grow and prosper. He did it his way — “It takes a big hammer to drive a big nail” — and he will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 71 years, Martha; brother Albert, and sister Gertrude; and many nephews and nieces on both sides of the family, including a number of cousins in Norway. Children include Christopher and wife Holly (a daughter in all but name); grandchildren Martha, Mickey, Ben, Clancy, Austin, Eli, Steven, Chrissy and Becca; and great-grandchildren Kyla, Kameron, Jacob, Owen, Gilbert, Caleb, Gabe and Riley.
He was predeceased by his brother, George, and his daughter, Lisa.
A memorial service was held Saturday, Dec. 6 at Bethany Lutheran Church. Sign the online guest book for the family at www.cookfamilyfuneralhome.com.
