Like their counterparts, the Bainbridge girls lacrosse team is one step away from a state title.
The Spartans got goals from a variety of players to beat a tough team in Forest Ridge 21-12 in a state quarterfinal playoff game tonight at BHS.
Bainbridge took a 10-5 lead into halftime, but Forest Ridge went on a 3-1 run to open the second half and take control.
After a timeout, the Spartans took control of the game back.
Natalie Evans had a hat trick while Marley Horne, Sarah Shea, Tarie Caouette and Mariah Walk scored in a six minute span to push the lead to 19-8.
The defense did the rest, ending any threat of the Ravens coming back.
At the 3A Sea-King District 2 tournament, three girls players won their matches to make it to state.
Molly Donohue, the number one girls player for Bainbridge, won her first two matches to qualify for state.
She beat Holy Names’ Oliva Derecat, the sixth seed from Metro, 6-4, 6-4 in a morning match.
Donohue then defeated Bellevue’s Sara Ebrahimi, the number two seed from KingCo, 6-1, 6-2 in an afternoon match to qualify for state.
The girls doubles team of Jamie Slonaker and Brooke Shorett made it to state with their wins over Alisa Tabiando and Michelle Pham of Newport
6-0, 6-4 and then beat the number one seed from Kingco, Michele Miyauchi and Tomomi Matsushita of Newport 3-6, 6-3, 6-2.
Nash Reijnen didn’t make it out as he lost to Mike Kung of Sammamish 6-2, 6-1.
The boys doubles team of Taylor Lea and Erik Saksa lost to Chris Winterbauer and Trevor Fulp of Mercer Island 6-3, 6-2.
The Bainbridge baseball team fell one game short of state, losing to Issaquah 4-3 in eight innings.
The Spartans had a 3-2 lead going into the seventh, but gave up a run to tie it, then Colin Feldtman gave up a single for the game winning run.
Bainbridge finishes with a record of 16-7.
Donohue and Slonaker and Shorett play for a district title tomorrow at Lower Woodland while the girls lacrosse team travels to Mercer Island Thursday at 6 p.m. in a state semifinal game.
