Handmade boat to be unveiled at fly fishing meeting

A local father-and-son team will debut a fishing/crabbing vessel they constructed themselves at an upcoming meeting of the Bainbridge Island Fly Fishers club.

Satya Advani, 17, member of club since January 2014, and his father Ajay will present the details of their joint construction of a a 15-foot, 2-inch long “Peeler skiff,” a flat-bottom crabbing boat, at the club meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 30 at Seabold Community Hall (14451 Komedal Road).

It was built in the basement of the Advani home in Indianola, club officials announced, and was inspired by an older row boat.

Regular club meetings are held at Seabold Community Hall, generally on the last Tuesday of the month.

Bainbridge Island Fly Fishers, a charter club of Fly Fishers International, was formed to encourage the participation of adults and youths in the art of fly fishing and in the conservation of fishing habitat.
