The Bainbridge Island Land Trust in encouraging islanders to make the upcoming MLK Day a “Day On,” not a “Day Off!”

The trust’s stewardship team will be sprucing up the trust’s Fletcher Bay lots from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 19.

Major tasks for volunteers will be removing English ivy from trees and large yard waste piles, to give native plants the room they need to thrive. Organizers said the work party will be a great opportunity for high school students to fulfill required volunteer hours.

Helpers should wear long sleeves, long pants and sturdy shoes. Bring work gloves, a sack lunch and water bottle. Light snacks and refreshments will be provided.

Volunteers should RSVP: Detailed directions and parking instructions will be provided; contact Becca Nissley at becca@bi-landtrust.org or call 206-842-1216.
