A backhoe operator moves topsoil into place next to the first leg of the Sound to Olympics Trail that is under construction along Highway 305 south of High School Road.

The city broke ground on the project last March. When the initial “first mile” leg is completed, city officials say it will encourage non-motorized transportation from downtown Winslow up to High School Road. The new pathway also connects to the pedestrian bridge over Ravine Creek.
