Creosote, Pleasant Beach, Winslow School, Fort Ward, Port Blakely, Port Madison, Moran School — these names were emblazoned on uniforms seen in vintage photos of early Bainbridge baseball teams that once practiced and played on dirt fields around the island. Today many former members of teams from Bainbridge High School, softball teams, Little League and Babe Ruth still live in the area.

The Bainbridge Island Historical Museum is looking for current and former baseball players and fans to gather on the museum grounds for Baseballarama. The event will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. May 19. The Mariner Moose will pay a visit and there will be an opportunity to join him for a picture.

The museum organizers invite Bainbridge Island baseball players as far back as the 30s as well as those playing today to take advantage of this opportunity to reminisce about their years on the diamond. All are encouraged to rummage around in their attics and trunks to bring or wear their old uniforms. Prizes will be given for those who can “field” the most members of their team. Hot dogs, chips, peanuts, beer and pop will be available. The Historical Museum will display an impressive collection of baseball memorabilia including any that Island collectors would like to loan for the event.
