A home near Grow Avenue was burglarized late last week.

According to police documents, someone broke into a storage area attached to a Gideon Lane home and stole outdoor and camping gear that was valued at $700.

The renter of the property discovered the latch to the storage door had been unscrewed and broken into after returning from work Thursday, Feb. 13.

A padlock that had locked the door shut hung from the other end of the unscrewed latch.

Since the door leading into the house through the storage area was locked from the inside, the thief was unable to enter the home, police reported.

Police searched the forested area around the house and did not find any evidence nor shoe impressions. Officers also conducted an area canvas and spoke with a neighbor across the street.

The neighbor told police she had been home most of the day, but had not been watching closely. She did not see anyone near the house, aside from two teenage girls at Gideon Park.

The thief stole two presorted tool kits, both black in color and valued at approximately $40 each. Also stolen were a Jumpstart battery station valued at $150, a box of camping equipment, two REI camping chairs (green and grey), one Coleman camping tent (a cabin-style model valued at $200), two fishing poles valued at $50 total and one green fishing net with aluminum handle valued at $20.
