The Bainbridge Spartan boys and girls basketball teams hooped through victories over Eastside Catholic in back-to-back nights this week.
Tuesday evening, the boys ousted the Crusaders 46-42, bolstered by the balanced double-figure scoring of Henry Guterson (13), Joe Picha (12) and Schuyler Boone (10.)
The Spartans jumped out to a 17-11 first-quarter lead, and held a 20-15 margin at the halftime break, following a low-scoring second quarter by both teams.
Rounding out the scoring by the blue and gold was senior point guard Kevin Hebner with 9; and Ross Maloney added 2.
The Bainbridge boys will be at Ingraham Tuesday, and play host to the nationally ranked Rainer Beach Vikings next Friday night –
Varsity tip-off is scheduled for 6:15.
Junior jazz
Morgan Zajonc led the Spartan girls to a 63-55 victory over Eastside Catholic on Wednesday evening on the Spartan home court. The junior guard continued her strong season with 22 points. Junior forward Alice Russell was close behind in the scoring column with 20 points of her own.
The Spartans took control in the final quarter after the third period ended in a 39-39 deadlock, outscoring the Crusaders 24-16 in the final period.
Allie Picha added 8, Tiana Gallagher 5, Lee Maloney 4 and Haley Wiggins 4 to wrap up the Bainbridge scoring.
The girls will be at Ingraham on Wednesday night, and, like the boys, host Rainier Beach on Friday.
The girls varsity game on Friday is scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. However, the boys game could pack the house, so fans are advised to arrive earlier.
