Rey Estaban serves in the second game of the championship finals at the table tennis singles tournament Saturday at the Bainbridge Island Senior Center.
Players from age 13 to 87 came out to compete; some in the tournament for the first time.
Three tables were set up for the tourney, which started at 9 a.m. with a field of 16 that was whittled down to the top three players by 2 p.m.
Rey Estaban won Saturday’s tournament, edging Phil Hodge in the final. Third place went to Dan Petersen.
“I got lucky,” Estaban said.
“You got good,” Hodge laughed.
The winner received a gift certificate from tournament sponsor Cole’s Table Tennis.
The senior center hosts table tennis three times a week: Mondays, from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.; 7 to 10 p.m. Thursdays; and 9 a.m. to noon Saturdays (the first hour is for competitive singles play only). A $2 donation is requested.
Singles tournaments are held twice a year, in spring and fall, and doubles tourneys are held in the summer and winter.
The table tennis gatherings are organized by Jim Gleckler, Gary Gramstad and Dale Spoor, and all skill levels are welcome.
