Investigation continues to identify body found near ferry terminal

The investigation regarding the identity and cause of death of the deceased person who washed ashore in Eagle Harbor earlier this week is ongoing.

The investigation regarding the identity and cause of death of the deceased person who washed ashore in Eagle Harbor earlier this week is ongoing, Kitsap County Coroner Greg Sandstrom said Friday afternoon.

The body has not yet been identified, he said, and the investigation remains active.

The body was discovered just before 3 p.m. on Aug. 30, east of the ferry terminal, by an islander walking along the beach. Bainbridge Island Police Chief Matthew Hamner had previously said authorities hoped to learn the identity of the deceased by the end of the week.

There was no immediate determination of how long the body had been exposed to the elements, but Hamner said the body had a “significant amount of decomposition.”

Hamner said Friday that updated information would be released as it became available.
